  • Wuliangsuhai Watershed Management Project in Inner Mongolia

  • The improvement of water quality attracts a large number of birds.

Today, the overall water quality of the watershed has reached Class V, with some areas reaching Class IV, and a new wetland area of 100,000 mu has been created in the watershed. The improvement of water quality has attracted a large number of birds to stop by, and about 6 million wild birds breed in the wetlands every year, the number of mute swans is increased from more than 200 in 2000 to nearly 1,000 now. The beauty of the watershed made a local resident excited: "This is the Wuliangsuhai Watershed in my childhood!"

The project provides comprehensive restoration and management for farmland, wetlands and lakes in the watershed. The project team has successively implemented desert grassland ecological restoration demonstration projects, lakeside ecological pollution blocking projects, and mine afforestation and greening projects in lake shores, grasslands, and mines. Based on local conditions, the project team has made relevant arrangements, which not only effectively prevents sediment from entering the lake, but also adds green to Hetao area, creating a 126-kilometer beautiful scene around the lake with both ecological functions and landscape value.
