Yangshan Port

In 1992, Shanghai decided to take Yangshan Deep-Water Port as the core of the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, and to build a great port in the eastern hemisphere. In 2002, the first of four phases of Yangshan Deep-Water Port project kicked off, with a land area of 1.11 million square meters and a dredging volume of 14.24 million cubic meters. The China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Third Harbor Engineering Co.,Ltd. built five container berths of 70,000 to 100,000 tons with a designed annual throughput of 2.2 million standard containers. Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited (ZPMC) provided all port machinery equipment. In December 2005, the first phase of Yangshan Deep-Water Port project was completed and put into operation. Beginning in 2005, the construction of the second and third phases of the project started successively. In August 2012, the fourth phase of the fully automated wharf project for Yangshan Deep-Water Port began construction. On December 10, 2017, the fourth phase of the project officially opened as the world's largest single automated intelligent wharf. The completion and operation of the fourth phase of the wharf for Yangshan Port marks a milestone of upgrading and major changes in the operation mode and technology application of China's port industry.
